In collaboration with Sports Medicine Australia, the Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission (SACM) in Australia organized a seminar themed: “Understanding of Injuries in Young People and Athletes” on Thursday 14th December 2017. The seminar aimed at providing and sharing information on sports medicine and injuries in young people and athletes in Saudi Arabia and Australia, in addition to highlighting the role of sports medicine in promoting the health of the individual and community.

Professor Salem Al-Zahrani, a consultant orthopedic surgeon specialized in sports medicine from Saudi Arabia, defined the sports medicine as a medical system that includes doctors, health professionals, players, media and the relevant government departments. He also spoke about the development of sports medicine in Saudi Arabia, pointing out that Saudi Arabia has now become an attractive destination for medical referrals thanks to the remarkable progress achieved in this field.

The seminar also featured speeches of a number of academics and researchers specialized in sports medicine. They spoke about issues in sports medicine pertinent to individuals and sport and social environment; challenges in the prevention and management of injuries; in addition to the importance of physical activity to individuals’ health and welfare. The speakers also discussed the development of sports medicine in Saudi Arabia and Australia and reviewed the importance of training programs for specialists and the necessity of providing health care for all segments of society.

Dr. Hesham Khadawardi the Saudi Cultural Attaché to Australia referred to the comprehensive reform occurring in Saudi Arabia at various levels under the Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 including economy and the human resources development sector. He also pointed to the importance of the Saudi-Australian partnership in the field of research and education, citing the number of Saudi students in Australian universities and the research and academic cooperation between the two countries. He also thanked the guests and congratulated a number of Saudi graduates and wished them success in their current and future endeavors.

The event concluded with honoring the speakers and the graduates. The seminar was attended by the Saudi Chargé d’Affaires in Australia, representatives of Australian educational institutions, and a number of Saudi students.
